The town of Young in regional NSW has wasted no time in updating its sign to reflect that it is more than just the “Cherry Capital of Australia.”

The arrest of a man on terrorism offences in Young earlier today has led the town’s Chamber of Commerce to act quickly to update the town’s welcome sign which appears on major roads on the approach to Young.

The sign now reads the Young is also the “alleged ISIS laser missile detection design capital of Australia“.

A 42 year old man who lives in Young will be charged with a number of offences after Federal Police alleged he was “researching, designing and modelling systems to assist ISIL’s efforts to develop their own long-range guided missile capabilities.”

It’s understood the man could have been engaging in the design of laser missile detection systems.

After a hastily combined meeting of the Young Chamber of Commerce, a signwriter was commissioned immediately to update the sign, so that the town could take advantage of its new found notoriety.

“Perhaps being a terrorist hotspot could really put us on the map,” one member of the local council told Broken News.  “I mean being the cherry capital is great, but you have to move with the times.”
